Man shot to death at apartment complex in Gresham

GRESHAM, Ore. - Police are investigating Monday night's shooting death of a Portland man at an apartment complex in Gresham as a homicide.

Police believe Makeitho "Tito" De Monz Herring, 37, was visiting his parents at the Pine Square Apartments when he was shot around 11 p.m.

Herring was found on the ground in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the shooting did not appear to be gang-related. Herring may have known the person who shot him.

"In the apartment complex we have dozens and dozens of potential witnesses," said Gresham Police Lt. Claudio Grandjean. "So we've gotta start working through that to find out just that question - the why's and exactly how this happened."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Gresham Police tip line at 503-618-2719.
