Marion County Sheriff: Woman eludes sexual assault, man arrested

SALEM, Ore. - Marion County Sheriff arrested a man after a woman escaped by fighting him off when he broke into her home and tried to sexually assault her Saturday morning.

Armando Cervantes, 19, was booked into Marion County Jail on charges of attempted Rape I, Burglary I, Strangulation, Sexual Abuse I and Assault IV.

In a press release, deputies said Cervantes gave them a "full confession."

The woman, who wants to hide her identity, told KATU Cervantes lives on the same property as she does.

She said Cervantes is the boyfriend of the daughter of the property owner.

The woman said Cervantes kept calling her 'Andrea' (not her name) and held a rag to her mouth as he tried to assault her.

She said she fought him off then ran outside and called police.

A Marion County Sheriff spokesman told KATU he could not say whether deputies believe this attack is connected to two home invasions in Salem that occurred Tuesday morning.
