Missing dog that escaped car crash found safe
PORTLAND, Ore. - Rico, the missing 6-year-old Yorkie that escaped a car crash Saturday night, is back with his owner.
Connie Petersen saw Rico at the corner of her driveway on Peninsular Avenue Monday morning. She said she lured him over, got his collar tag and called his owner, Nicole Weir.
"We tried to get him to come to us. He was afraid," said Petersen. "She rang the doorbell, she saw him, burst into tears."
Weir said Rico was alone in her parked car when a suspected drunk driver crashed into it Saturday night. Rico escaped the crash, but he was nowhere to be found.
Weir said Rico was spotted several times since Saturday night, including near Jefferson High School in North Portland.
Rico seemed to be limping, so Weir took him to a vet.
"I wish he could tell me what he's been through," said Weir. "I've been so worried and scared he would get hurt before I could find him. This is amazing."
