Mom upset with music selection in McDonald's play area
BEAVERTON, Ore - Remember "Color Me Badd"? How about their 1991 hit "I Wanna Sex You Up"?A Beaverton mom, going by the pseudonym "Suzie," told KATU she now knows the song too well, and so do her four and six-year-old kids."We went to McDonalds yesterday because it was super hot and I wanted my kids to be able to play," Suzie said. "The kids were playing for a little bit [in the play area] and then I heard a song come on and it was singing 'I Wanna Sex You Up.'"Suzie said her kids didn't know what to make of it. "My daughter came up to me about halfway through the song, being six years old and curious, asked me what 'sex you up' means," Suzie said.I went into the play area at the McDonald's in question, at 125th Avenue and Scholls Ferry in Beaverton, and found the speakers booming with other 90s music, including "No Diggity" and "The Boy is Mine."The supervisor at the McDonald's told me no one at the restaurant can control what music they play - that decision is made higher up the fast-food chain. This particular McDonald's is locally owned by Don Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong gave KATU a statement that read:"We began investigating this matter once we were made aware of it. We'll continue to gather facts and determine what may have occurred. We strive to provide customers with a comforting and enjoyable environment whenever they visit our restaurant."
KATU will continue to follow this story and bring you any updates.
