Mother, son killed in Max Blue line collision identified
PORTLAND, Ore. -- A mother and son killed following a collision with a Max Blue line train Saturday afternoon have been identified.
A mother in a mobility device and her son were struck by a Blue Line train at Gresham City Hall. Early reports state that the person may have jumped into the woman's lap and powered the mobility device into the train's right of way.
The Multnomah County Medical Examiner has identified the mother as Bertha Nellie Kelly, was a 66-year-old female resident of Multnomah County. Her son, John Paul Kelly, a 48-year-old male was also a resident of Multnomah County.
The operator said that they did not see this happen and was not aware of what happened until a short time later. One victim died at the scene. The second person was transported to a local hospital, and later died.
MAX Blue Line service has been restored at Gresham City Hall following this fatal collision.
