PORTLAND, Ore. – Southeast Powell Boulevard closed from Southeast 136th Avenue to 144th Avenue for hours Tuesday morning while police investigate a fatal crash.

The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team responded to the crash scene.
After investigating, officials say the driver of the Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Southeast Powell Boulevard. Witnesses say that before the crash, the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles and traveling into the oncoming lane of traffic.
At the intersection with Southeast 141st Avenue, he crashed into a GMC pickup truck that was turning southbound onto Southeast 141st Avenue from westbound Southeast Powell Boulevard.
Police say the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike. The operator landed on the ground and was struck by a red Ford sedan that was traveling westbound on Southeast Powell Boulevard.
Officers believe the driver of the red Ford, 26-year-old Rory A. Morgan, was driving while intoxicated at the time of the crash. Morgan was lodged in the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants.
The deceased motorcyclist will be identified after the Oregon State Medical Examiner performs an autopsy and next of kin is notified.
