CEDAR MILL, Ore. - A neighbor called 911 Tuesday after a woman came to her bleeding and asking for help.
That woman was Nicole Laube. She was stabbed to death at Timber Creek Apartments just off Southwest Barnes Road. Police are still looking for the suspect.
Laube had just started her job at the apartment complex and was excited about it, her friends and close family friends said Wednesday.
Late Tuesday afternoon, her father tried to contact her, but she didn't respond. Then he saw the news - a stabbing at his daughter's workplace - and called police. Later, the police delivered the news that his daughter had been murdered.
Members of the family's church, Calvary Chapel Worship Center in Hillsboro, where the father is also the pastor, told KATU News this has been gut-wrenching.
"There's nothing to say. How do you explain evil?" said Matthew Dodd, associate pastor at the church. "There's no way to explain that type of thing. It's senseless. That's the hard part is what do you say?"
Dodd had known Laube since she was 10 years old. The church sent out a letter about her murder to all the members Wednesday afternoon.
He said Laube had survived cancer.
She leaves behind a young son a daughter.
Investigators said there's no concrete evidence to know whether Laube knew her killer.
Calvary Chapel will hold a special prayer and worship service at 7 p.m.
