Oaks Park new roller coaster named 'Adrenaline Peak'
PORTLAND, Ore. —
The new roller coaster at Oaks Park officially has a name.
Fittingly, the Adrenaline Peak will take riders through a 97-degree loop, a corkscrew turn and more.
The park installed the final piece of track this week and plan to have it up and running for opening day on March 24.
The ride has a past-vertical initial drop and can reach speeds up to 45 mph.
The park had to go through more than 4,500 name entries to find its winner.
William Phillips, who suggested the name, is a self-described amusement park fanatic from Clackamas.
“The first word that shouted out to me was ‘adrenaline’ and then peak just kind of followed from there, and I think it fits looking at that big gigantic hill that’s almost vertical,” he said.
Phillips said it is the only idea that came to him.
He also said he had forgotten he even entered the contest and was surprised and excited when he got an email announcing he won.
