SALEM, Ore. – Oregon State Police determined a barn fire in Salem was started intentionally early Sunday morning.

After a preliminary investigation, police ruled the fire as an arson.

Detectives and emergency personnel initially responded to 3552 Ward Drive Northeast for a report of a house fire around 3 a.m., but they soon learned there were two separate fires. One was at the residence and the other was at a nearby barn.

Firefighters contained the fire at the residence to a single bedroom, but the barn was fully engulfed and completely destroyed.

No one was injured.

Investigators determined the fire was suspicious that it was caused intentionally.

Police say transients have been known to occupy the residence.

Anyone who knows people who frequent the location should call Oregon State Police at 800-45207888 and refer to case number SP18-135992.
