Oregon Symphony announces 2018-19 schedule
PORTLAND, Ore. —
The Oregon Symphony, with musical director Carlos Kalmar, released the schedule for its upcoming 2018-19 season Friday, and the lineup has something for everybody.
The Symphony kicks off its new season with legendary soprano Renée Fleming, Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, with Kalmar conducting the full orchestra.
The SoundStories series continues its programming for the eyes and the ears with three collaborations: Petrushka, Hansel and Gretel, and Peer Gynt. Hansel and Gretel will be acted out by shadow puppets on a huge screen behind the orchestra, and Alexander Polzin's art will create a visual journey for the orchestra's performances of Peer Gynt.
This year, the "Popcorn Package" lineup, where the orchestra plays a live soundtrack along with the screening of a popular film, includes Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Trek Beyond, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
And there are several fun dates for the Kids Series, with Pirates!, Green Eggs and Ham, and Prokofiev's classic adventure Peter and the Wolf.
