Pedestrian hit and killed in crash on Southeast Division

PORTLAND, Ore. - A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car Monday afternoon on Southeast Division and 66th Avenue while he was walking on a sidewalk, Portland police say.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene just after 3 p.m. They found 55-year-old James Dalton Porteron the ground suffering from traumatic injuries. They treated the man at the scene but could not save him.

Police said 84-year-old Estelle Irene Fuman was driving westbound on Southeast Division Street when she crossed the eastbound lanes and hit the man, who was on the south sidewalk. She then crashed into a telephone poll.

Furman might have suffered a medical event before the crash, police said.

Furman was traumatically injured and was taken to the hospital. She is expected to survive.
