Photographers help man escape SE Portland house fire
PORTLAND, Ore. - A man escaped a fire at his house in Southeast Portland after two photographers woke him up early Monday.
It happened near Southeast 80th Avenue and Taylor Street just after 2 a.m., according to Portland Fire and Rescue.
Two photographers arrived on the scene to shoot video of the fire. Chas Briggs said they realized no one was outside when they arrived and saw flames coming from the home.
"We basically arrived, and went 'okay, we're really close, and no one's actually out, which means someone must be in the house'," Briggs said. "So we started pounding on the doors and windows and finally, it seemed like it took forever, but it was only about a minute. He came out. We asked if there was anyone else in the house. He said no, and at that point wanted to go back in. We said 'no, you can't do that.'"
No one was hurt.
Portland Fire and Rescue crews had the fire under control just before 3 a.m.
It's unclear what caused the fire.
