'Police activity' shuts down I-5 northbound in Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. —
Police closed down I-5 northbound in Portland Sunday afternoon to handle a situation involving a man in a mental health crisis on the Weidler Street overpass.
The Oregon Dept. of Transportation reported the closure near the Rose Quarter shortly before 3 p.m.
Portland Police reported that the interstate was back open by about 3:45 p.m.
The closure caused significant delays on I-5 for both north and southbound drivers heading through Portland.
Initial reports say that a man was threatening to jump from the bridge. Officers managed to deescalate the situation.
