Police: Man tied up 2 people in robbery of NW Portland hotel

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Police are searching for a man who robbed a hotel employee and newspaper delivery driver Thursday morning at Northwest Portland's Silver Cloud Inn.

The man entered the hotel, at 2426 N.W. Vaughn St., carrying a small box and told the employee and an Oregonian delivery driver that it was a bomb, Portland police said.

He then tied up both people and stole cash from them before fleeing the hotel. The victims managed to get free and called 911 just before 5 a.m.

Responding officers and a police tracking dog searched the area surrounding the hotel, but could not find a person matching the suspect's description, police said.

The suspect is described as African American and wearing a white hockey mask and all black clothing.

Anyone with information should call robbery detectives at 503-823-0405.
