Police release name of woman killed by bus in downtown Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. - Police have released the name of the pedestrian who was killed after being hit by a bus in downtown Portland on Sunday afternoon.
Monserrat Hernandez-Garcia, an 18-year-old from Vancouver, was killed after she was struck by an Amtrak charter bus driven by 68-year-old Chales Atarashi Start of Portland, police said.
KATU news partner The Columbian reports Hernandez-Garcia was going to graduate from Hudson's Bay High School on Wednesday.
The accident happened at NW 6th Ave. and NW Glisan St. just before 4 p.m.
Police said Start was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and that he cooperated with the investigation. There have been no charges or citations, though the investigation is ongoing.
