Police: Teen girl shot during fight in SE Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. - A teenage girl was shot and wounded during a fight in Southeast Portland late Sunday night.
Police say the shooting appears to be gang-related.
Officers responded to a reported fight outside the American Legion hall, located at 1830 S.E. 122nd Avenue, just before 11:30 p.m.
Police found a large group of teens and a girl who had been shot when they arrived. The girl's injuries are not life-threatening, according to police. The girl's name has not been released.
Investigators said there was a party at the American Legion hall and two groups began fighting outside. Someone fired a gun into the crowd during the fight.
Police said several smaller fights broke out when they arrived. Officers had to call for backup to restore order.
The suspect is described as a black man in his late teens or early 20s. He is 5-foot-11 and has an average build. Witnesses told police the man fired several shots into the crowd and ran away eastbound on Mill Avenue.
The Gang Enforcement Team is investigating the shooting.
