Police: Traffic stop nets 23 pounds of cocaine
CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- Two California residents are behind bars, after state police say they caught them hauling about 23 pounds of cocaine in their car on Interstate 5.
Authorities say a trooper stopped a northbound Chrysler Sebring Tuesday night just before 10:30 for speeding.
The trooper identified the driver, Vincent Michael Mendez, 22, of Spring Valley, California, and his passenger, 21-year-old Alyssa Panziera of Salinas, California.
State police say that during an investigation troopers found 10 kilos (about 23 pounds) of cocaine hidden in the car.
Officials say the cocaine had a value of about a half million dollars.
Both were arrested and lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of unlawful possession and delivery of cocaine.
