Police working on identifying remains of man found in Salem woods

SALEM, Ore. - Salem police believe they have identified a body found in the woods on Sunday.

Police said they believe the body belongs to a 48-year-old man, but are not releasing his name until they've confirmed it and notified his family.

On Sunday evening, police got a call that somebody had found human remains near Hawthorne Ave. SE and State St. They decided to secure the scene and process it in the morning when the sun came up.

Monday morning, the crime lab confirmed it was a human skeleton and it was sent to the state medical examiner's office for analysis.

Detectives said there was "no indication no homicidal violence."
