Portland metro unemployment holds at under 4 percent for third straight month
PORTLAND, Ore. – The unemployment rate for the Portland metro area has stayed under 4 percent for the third consecutive month, as local businesses have added nearly 3,000 new jobs.
Data from Oregon’s Employment Department shows the Portland-Hillsboro-Vancouver area at a seasonally adjusted jobless rate of 3.8 percent. That is slightly below the state average of 4.1 percent.
The Corvallis area (Benton County) has the lowest unemployment rate at 2.9 percent, while the highest is in Grants Pass (Josephine County).
Last week, the employment department said that strong employment gains in manufacturing, construction and private educational services were partially offset by a weak month for leisure and hospitality.
