Portland police find 50 pounds of cocaine during I-5 traffic stop
PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland police arrested a man after a drug-detecting K-9 found nearly 50 pounds of cocaine in his car during a traffic stop on Friday.
Officers stopped 28-year-old Charles Taesung Pak of Vancouver, British Columbia just after 5 p.m. on northbound Interstate 5 near Delta Park. Police said Pak was clearly nervous and "couldn't answer basic questions."
The officers asked for Pak's consent to search his vehicle. He consented to the search, police said.
A police narcotics dog named Nikko discovered about 50 pounds of cocaine inside the car. Police said the estimated street value of the cocaine is approximately $420,000.
Police believe Pak was headed for Canada, where the estimated street value of the drugs is nearly $500,000 more.
Police took Pak to the Multnomah County Jail on charges of manufacturing, distributing and possession of cocaine.
