Main thoroughfares like I-5, I-405 and I-205 slid to a halt as thousands of people tried to rush home before the snowy evening commute.

KATU News received dozens of calls about cars being left out on area roads and highways, especially in SW Portland along hilly Highway 26.

Drivers say they had no other choice but to leave their cars behind. When asked about this, ODOT told KATU News that drivers should have stayed with their cars.

All abandoned cars will be towed and owners will have to foot the bill.

Portland Bureau of Transportation said they won't be ticketing drivers who legally park at metered spots in Portland.
