POUND your way into shape in 2018

KATU News is on your side - helping you get in shape for the new year in unique and fun ways.

Reporter Wesleigh Ogle tried out Pulse PDX in Northeast Portland. It's like a dance club without the spilled drinks and cheesy pickup lines.

There's a DJ playing hit songs and controlling the light show, disco balls spinning and not a single mirror. The instructors say this all contributes to the 'no judgement' atmosphere.

Pulse PDX offers a variety of group fitness classes, but Wesleigh tried POUND Rockout Workout. It's a 45-minute, full-body, cardio workout - with drumsticks.

Dana Spitz, one of the instructors, says, "It's a really unique form of release, because you get to hear your muscles go to work. You're pounding the floor, you're hitting up high and it's incredibly liberating."
