Pride Week kicks off in Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. —
Now that the Rose Festival is in the books, Portland is now celebrating another annual tradition: Pride Week.
Festivities kicked off Tuesday night at a Southwest Portland US Bank branch.
Pride Week celebrates the LGBTQ community in Portland, and organizers say it's also about fighting for your rights.
“As the political climate ebbs and flows, some years can be more celebratory, and some years seem to be more of a stand up again, and us having to take a stand for who we are as a community, and I definitely think that there is a part of that that’s happening with our current political climate,” said Michael Dixon Barry, vice president of Pride Northwest.
The highlight of Pride Week is the parade. This year’s is Sunday morning at 11:30 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
