Public testimony on Thursday about Nike tax legislation
SALEM, Ore. (AP) An Oregon legislative committee will hear public testimony Thursday on a bill sought by apparel giant Nike.
Gov. John Kitzhaber has called the full Legislature into special session Friday to consider legislation giving Kitzhaber authority to lock-in a key provision of the tax code for Nike.
Nike said it would expand in Oregon if the state would agree that the company's taxes will continue to be calculated based solely on its Oregon sales. Before 2005, Oregon included the value of in-state payroll and property when calculating taxes for multi-state corporations like Nike.
The newly created Joint Special Committee on Economic Development will meet on Thursday at 9 a.m. in Salem.
