Re-freeze expected overnight, Tuesday morning commute could be tricky
PORTLAND, Ore. —
Temperatures hovering slightly above freezing in much of the metro area helped melt some snow and ice Monday afternoon, but a re-freeze is expected overnight as temperatures drop.
The National Weather Service is also warning of another round of freezing rain Tuesday evening, so plan ahead for a tough commute both ways.
Freezing rain will eventually turn into snow in portions east of Interstate 205 and the Gorge Tuesday night.
A mix of freezing rain and snow Sunday led to very dangerous road conditions throughout the metro region, though most major highways appeared to be in much better shape by Monday afternoon.
Still, a re-freeze is expected overnight into Tuesday morning. Expect major roadways to be in better shape, but watch for black ice and icy spots. Neighborhood streets and sidewalks will likely ice over.
