Reynolds School District teacher arrested on sex abuse charges
PORTLAND, Ore. - Police have arrested a middle school teacher on six counts related to sex abuse, according to the Reynolds School District on Thursday.
The principal of Lee Middle School said in a letter to parents that the district has no reason to believe that John Beasley was involved with any Reynolds School District children.
According to the school's website, Beasley is a seventh-grade teacher in the social studies department.
Beasley appeared in court Thursday afternoon on charges of sex abuse, sodomy and unlawful sexual penetration.
According to court documents, Beasley is accused of sexually abusing two children related to him. A police officer was called to his home Sept 16. The children told the officer about the abuse. Police said they interviewed Beasley the next day and he admitted the abuse started about two years ago.
The court documents go on to say that Beasley told investigators he thought there wasn't any harm in what he'd done, because he thought the victims were curious.
A Reynolds spokeswoman said Beasley has been working for the district since 2005. He previously worked for Reynolds Learning Academy.
