Rope team rescues 79-year-old woman who drove off Oregon coast cliff
NEWPORT, Ore. - Oregon State Police say a 79-year-old woman has been rescued after her car ran off U.S. Highway 101 along the Oregon coast and plunged at least 50 feet down a cliff.
Lt. Gregg Hastings said a witness reported the woman's car rolled at least once Monday afternoon before coming to rest on its top.
A Lincoln County rope rescue team responded, rappelled down the cliff, and freed Mary Fischer from the car.
Mary Fisher, who is a Siletz-area resident, was flown to a Corvallis hospital with what were described as serious injuries.
The accident happened north of Newport. Troopers are investigating.
