Sauvie Island shooting victim tells pastor, wife: 'They brought me out here to kill me'
SAUVIE ISLAND, Ore. – Detectives arrested a suspect in a shooting on Sauvie Island that left a man in the hospital.
Brett Andre,28, was taken into custody in Northeast Portland Wednesday afternoon and was later booked into the Multnomah County Jail several charges, including attempted murder and first-degree robbery.
The victim was found the night before near the Sauvie Island Community Church, badly beaten and suffering from a gunshot wound.
The church pastor and his wife, Russell and Linda Richardson, live on the property. They heard the victim banging on their door, asking for help.
“I opened the door and there he was, just laying on our sidewalk,” said Linda.
“I said, 'what happened?' and he said, 'well they brought me out here to kill me,'" Richard added. "Blood on his head, blood on his shirt… my major concern was for him."
Russell tried to ease the man's pain and waited with him until authorities arrived. He told the Richardsons his name was Nathan.
"I said ‘where are you from, Nathan?’ And he said, ‘I'm from Portland.’"
The couple says he didn't say how he ended up out here on Sauvie Island, but that he did somewhat know one of the people who took him out there.
According to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, the victim has no connection to the Sauvie Island community.
Officials are actively investigating what led up to this shooting, and are now asking for the public to come forward with any information.
