Several dogs die in house fire south of Scappoose

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. - Several dogs died in a house fire in rural Washington County Sunday afternoon, firefighters said.

The house was a total loss. No one was home at the time of the fire.

The home's location, in the 25000 block of Northwest Dixie Mountain Road, is in a very remote area south of Scappoose with no municipal water system, firefighters said. Crews responded to the fire at around 3:40 p.m.

The cause is unclear. Firefighters said the home wasn't safe to enter on Sunday to begin an investigation.
