Sheriff: 1 dead, 1 injured in shooting at Turner, Ore. home
TURNER, Ore. – A woman was found dead and a man was injured Sunday evening after reports of a shooting inside their home in Turner, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.
Initial reports say a man walked to the Turner Fire Department about 4:30 p.m. with a gunshot wound. Firefighters started treating the man and the sheriff's office was called out to his home, law enforcement said.
Deputies reported finding a woman's body inside the house.
Shannon Miller, who lives down the street on Ash, says she ran outside to see the commotion outside and says she saw several deputies draw guns. She quickly gathered her family and neighbors inside.
"We heard a neighbor scream that someone had a gun, so I made sure the neighbor across the way let her know to have her kids inside because you never know if someone is on the loose or not," she said. "With everything going on in America, it's scary. I'm praying for the people but it made me think, 'Wow, it's even close to home.'"
While Miller didn't hear any gunshots, she says you can never be 100 percent safe these days.
"It seems like anywhere you don't know what's safe, as long as you're in your home and you're looking at your surroundings. I moved out of Salem to a small town and there's still a shooting."
The sheriff's office blocked off the intersection of 3rd and Ash Streets for an investigation. At this point, they have not released details on what led to the shooting.
There is no immediate danger to the public, officials said.
