Sheriff's office: Suspect steals car while it's warming up, leads deputies on chase

File photo

A 23-year-old man stole at least two cars while the owners left the cars unattended to warm them up.

Deputies say Dmitriy Sharshakov stole a car from outside a Hockinson home and then led deputies on a chase, eventually crashing into a ditch and losing one tire on NE 182nd Avenue.

Despite only using three tires, Sharshakov continued the chase. Stop sticks were deployed at NE 159th Street, which were effective in deflating two more tires. But Sharshakov continued with a single tire left into the parking lot of Hockinson Middle School, where deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the suspect. Despite his attempts to move patrol vehicles, he was eventually arrested.

Sharshakov is facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, attempt to elude, a US Marshal's Warrant and a local felony warrant.

Deputies added Sharshakov is responsible for stealing another car earlier in the day.
