Slow thaw underway, though road conditions remain slippery
PORTLAND, Ore. —
A slow thaw is underway for much of the Portland metro region Monday, but road conditions remain dangerous.
Local agencies say you should still avoid driving if at all possible.
More above freezing temperatures are popping up south and west of Portland as the day goes on. In the early afternoon, east Portland, Gresham, Vancouver and the Gorge will be last to rise above freezing.
Travel should be much easier in the late afternoon and evening, though side streets and sidewalks will likely still be quite messy.
The National Weather Service reports there will be light freezing rain or sleet in the metro area Tuesday. Areas east of Interstate 205 and the Gorge will likely get some more snow.
