Snow, rock slides briefly close I-5 southbound at Oregon-California border
MEDFORD, Ore. – Interstate 5 was closed near the Oregon-California border at about noon Wednesday after a rock slide pushed debris onto the snow-covered freeway.
Drivers heading in both directions on I-5 were being held from Milepost 14 to the California border, the Oregon Department of Transportation said.
Initial reports from ODOT said there were near white-out conditions along I-5 in the Siskiyous Mountains.
Crews reopened the northbound lanes by about 1 p.m., and I-5 southbound was back open by about 1:45 p.m.
Drivers must have chains or 4-wheel drive between Mileposts 1 and 10, ODOT said.
