Student makes up false report of armed classmate at Newberg school
NEWBERG, Ore. - A student who called 9-1-1 Tuesday morning and said another student had a rifle inside a Newberg elementary school admitted to police that the report was false.
Police said the student made the call at around 10 a.m. and told the 9-1-1 call taker that a student had a rifle at Antonia Crater Elementary School. Three schools went into "lock out," which means all the doors were locked and classes continued as normal.
Officers arrived at the school and learned the identity of the caller, who told police they made the whole thing up.
The "lock out" was lifted at 11 a.m. after police searched school buildings.
Police said they will have an increased presence Tuesday near all Newberg schools.
They said school staff, teachers and students "responded flawlessly during the event."
The student's age was not released.
