Sub shop fundraiser puts new devices in local NICU
PORTLAND, Ore. --- A local sub shop fundraiser helps families with premature babies at Randall Children's Hospital.
We told you about Jersey Mike's Subs "Day of Giving" back in March. The chain raised more than $17,000 dollars at its six Oregon locations in one day.
We were there as they presented the big check at Randall Children's Hospital. The money went specifically to provide special "milk warmers" for premature babies. Now all 38 rooms in the NICU have their own device.
"The biggest thing is getting these babies to eat. And if the milk is too cold, that's cramp-y for a stomach that is wee big. And so this just takes the thinking out of the way, and it's just such a nice feature that we have," said nurse Barbara Wartell.
Jersey Mike's added this year's donation to the $8,000 it raised last year to pay for all the milk warmers.
