Talking parakeet stolen from cage outside East Portland home

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Police said Josey the parakeet can speak a few words, so let's hope one of them is 'help.'

Someone stole Josey from his cage outside an East Portland home.

Portland police officers were called to the bird theft Tuesday afternoon at the home in the 15100 block of East Burnside Street.

The bird's owner told police the 5-year-old male Derbyan parakeet was pilfered sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to the Portland Police Bureau. Josey's cage is outside, between the house and garage.

Josey has a grey body and head with black over his eyes and below his peak. He has a green back and wings and a bright orange beak. Josey is nearly 14 inches long and weighs 8 ounces.
