Target breach brings big new hassle to Chase customers

PORTLAND, Ore. - People who bank at Chase and recently swiped a debit card at Target have a new hassle to face as they finish holiday shopping.

Saturday, the bank contacted customers at risk from the data breach at Target stores with new restrictions on debit-card transactions. Affected customers can only withdraw $100 per day from an ATM, and spend $300 per day on a debit card.

Affected Chase customers with holiday travel plans outside the U.S. won't be able to get any cash from machines outside the States.

If these limits are too restrictive, customers can visit a Chase branch with proper identification to get extra cash. Chase will keep doors open extra hours to help people deal with the inconvenience.

"We realize this could not have happened at a more inconvenient time with the holiday season upon us," read an alert on the Chase website.

Chase said on its website that many branches would remain open on Sunday.
