Tonya Harding steals the spotlight at upcoming Portland film festival
PORTLAND, Ore. – Tonya Harding appears to be winning back fans – at least in Oregon. In fact, the newly rekindled interest in the formerly disgraced figure skater has inspired a Tonya Harding film festival in Portland.
The film festival will be held at the Alberta Rose Theatre on March 8 and will feature two movies.
Harding is featured in both films, Sharp Edges and Breakaway.
Sharp Edges documents Harding’s journey to her first National Figure Skating competition as a 15-year-old in 1986.
The film was created by Portland filmmaker Sandra Lucklow and won the Louis Sudler Prize in the Performing and Creative Arts at Yale.
The Facebook event created for the Tonya Harding Film Festival says Lucklow will be present for a Q & A session after the movie.
The second film, Breakaway, is Tonya Harding’s acting debut.
It was a straight-to-VHS production that also stars Teri Fruichantie and Joe Estevez. It was released in 1996.
