TriMet: Expect delays, possible cancellations this weekend during snow/ice storm
PORTLAND, Ore. —
With snow and sleet rapidly accumulating around the Portland metro area, and freezing rain on tap for Saturday night, TriMet is urging riders to monitor the weather and avoid traveling if conditions become too dangerous.
TriMet says crews have made the necessary preparations to ensure that buses and MAX trains keep moving. However, if it becomes unsafe in an area for drivers, riders or equipment, service will be altered or canceled.
Some bus lines are experiencing delays, and about nine lines have been detoured or put on snow routes. So far, all MAX lines are still running.
TriMet says their buses are equipped with automatic drop-down chains, and that chained buses cannot travel faster than 25 mph. Heating elements on MAX equipment have also been activated.
Those who must travel during a storm should take extra caution, plan more time for their trips, dress warmly and check trimet.org/alerts before heading out.
