Trooper's son, Gresham man both die in head-on crash on Hwy 22

DALLAS, Ore. -- The teenage son of an Oregon State Police Trooper and a 69-year-old Gresham man died in a head-on crash Friday night along Highway 22 near Dallas, State Police officials said.

The state trooper and the Gresham man's wife, both passengers in the crash, were taken to Salem Hospital.

State police say Cayden Fitch, 18 of Lincoln City, was driving east in a small pickup with his father, 43-year-old OSP trooper Bryan Fitch. Authorities said Cayden pulled into the westbound lane at around 7 p.m. Friday to pass a car about three miles west of Dallas.

The pickup crashed head-on with an SUV driven by Michael Moylett of Gresham.

Both Cayden Fitch and Michael Moylett died at the scene, officials said.

Bryan Fitch and Michael's wife, 61-year-old Estella Moylett, were taken to the hospital.

Authorities closed down the highway for about six hours to investigate the crash.

"We speak often publicly about how families and friends are affected by motor vehicle collisions and that lives are forever impacted," said Superintendent Richard Evans. "Friday evening, two families and our Department are sadly experiencing such a loss. Please keep both families in your thoughts and prayers."
