PORTLAND, Ore. - A semi truck pulled down power poles in Northwest Portland's Pearl District, causing them to fall onto another truck and crush a car Tuesday morning.
No one was hurt.
Witnesses said a chemical truck hit a guide line connecting power poles near Northwest 14th Ave. and Marshall Street. The chemical truck driver was trying to pull out of the way of a tanker truck, according to Portland Fire and Rescue spokesman Lt. Rich Chatman. The truck brought down the power pole and caused a chain-reaction, pulling down surrounding poles and lines.
The pole landed on the tanker truck and a transformer crushed a car.
Portland General Electric shut off the power lines, causing nearby businesses to lose power. PGE expects to have power restored by this evening.
The woman who owns the crushed car was in the nearby LA Fitness during the crash, Chatman said.
The tanker truck was hauling yeast to the Bridgeport Brewery.
Police closed down 14th Avenue between Marshall and Northrup so crews can clean up the crash.
