SEASIDE, Ore. – Coast guard officials called off the search for a Tualatin man who was reported missing New Year's Day while he was kayaking near the mouth of the Seaside Estuary.
Matthew Manley, 42, was last seen crabbing from his kayak near the estuary’s mouth on Monday afternoon, Seaside Police said.
Officers joined Seaside Fire & Rescue in searching from the shore, but couldn’t find any sign of Manley, his kayak, or his gear.
The U.S. Coast Guard joined in the search from helicopter and by boat. They searched through the night and into Tuesday.
Officials said they called off the search by Tuesday afternoon citing the temperature of the water and reports that Manley wasn’t wearing a life vest.
