Two men arrested in Hillsboro meth bust

HILLSBORO, Ore. - Washington County sheriff's deputies arrested two men on drug trafficking charges Thursday.

Investigators seized methamphetamine, cash and a gun from a Hillsboro home.

Sgt. David Thompson said the Westside Interagency Narcotics team directed a patrol unit to make a traffic stop on 26-year-old Gerardo Barriga-Avalos Thursday morning. Deputies found two pounds of meth in his car and arrested him.

The investigation led to more meth in a Hillsboro storage unit and house on NE Grant Street, Thompson said. Investigators also found a handgun and $14,000 in cash in the home.

Deputies arrested Manuel Avalos-Pina, 28, at the house. They took both men to the Washington County Jail where they are being held on $500,000 bail.

Thompson said the estimated street value of the seized drugs is more than $30,000.
