Two officers injured after driver crashes into patrol car
PORTLAND, Ore. —
Two Portland police officers were seriously injured early Saturday morning after a driver crashed into their patrol car.
The officers were initially responding to a report of a stalled vehicle just south of the Interstate Bridge on I-5 northbound after midnight.
When they arrived, they found a drunk driver at the scene, who they placed into custody. As they were waiting for a tow truck, another driver crashed into the patrol car, injuring an officer and a sergeant. Both were hospitalized with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Neither the DUII suspect nor the driver who crashed into the officers was injured. The driver has been detained.
Traffic was diverted off I-5 northbound at Jantzen Beach.
