Vancouver police investigating fatal shooting

VANCOUVER, Wash. - Police investigated a fatal shooting Thursday evening near the corner of West 27th Avenue and Fruit Valley Road.

Vancouver police say the homeowner shot and killed a man he knows. Police detained him for questioning.

The Southwest Washington Major Crimes Unit was at the home for hours.

Police first responded about 5:30 p.m. to a call for a disturbance with weapons. When they got to the home, the man was dead in the yard.

Detectives interviewed neighbors, who told KATU they heard three to five gunshots.

One woman saw the man's body.

A search of the homeowner's criminal history revealed an arrest two years ago for aiming or discharging a firearm.

Vancouver police have not made an arrest in this case, though.

The homeowner's brother said his brother would never want to hurt anyone.
