Washington County deputy coaches youth volleyball team at national tournament
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. – When he’s not wearing the badge, Deputy Mike Griffin from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office coaches boys volleyball.
Last week, he took his youth volleyball team to the 2017 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
Griffin’s team placed 31st out of 69 teams from across the country.
Griffin has been volunteering his time as a youth volleyball coach since 2010.
He first founded the Bad Boys Open Volleyball Tournament in 2001 as a way to raise money for the families of first responders affected by the 9/11 attacks.
The charity has since donated proceeds to the Children’s Cancer Association, Mauli Ola Foundation, and Wounded Warrior Project.
Griffin has also served with WCSO as a school resource officer in several local schools.
