Washington County jail employee arrested for sexual misconduct on the job

A Washington County Jail employee was arrested Wednesday after an investigation revealed she had engaged in criminal activity while on the job, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said.

Jill Curry, 38, has been working as a civilian Jail Services Technician since October 2004, sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. Bob Ray said.

He said someone submitted a complaint against Curry to the sheriff's Office of Professional Standards Unit on July 8.

On the same day the complaint was filed, Curry was placed on administrative leave and Sheriff Pat Garrett asked the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office to conduct an independent investigation.

Curry is being held on $120,000 bail at the Washington County Jail. She faces six counts of first-degree custodial sexual misconduct and six counts of first-degree official misconduct, Ray said.

"While there's a presumption of innocence in our justice system, this employee is accused of extremely serious misconduct," Garrett said in a statement. "If the allegations are found to be true, then this employee completely violated my trust and the public's trust and will be dealt with swiftly and appropriately."

Ray said the criminal investigation is still underway.
