Woman assaulted during Southeast Portland run
PORTLAND, Ore. —
A woman says she was assaulted during a run through her Southeast Portland neighborhood and wants to prevent it from happening to someone else.
It happened around 7 p.m. Monday.
That’s when the woman, who didn’t want to be identified, says a teenager ran up behind her and hit her so hard on her butt it left a welt.
“I just feel the hardest smack,” she told KATU on Thursday night about the assault just blocks from her home.
While on her run, the woman said she noticed a teenager get out of a white van and cross the street in her direction. Minutes later she says he smacked her and then took off.
She tried to look for him, knocking on neighbors’ doors.
The woman called police and filed a report.
She says the boy looked about 15 years old. He was about 5 feet 10 inches tall, had a husky build and brown shaggy hair. She said she’s certain he was wearing a black backpack.
Going forward the woman had this to say to the person who assaulted her: “If he thought it was funny, it’s not. He scared me, and I don’t deserve to feel scared in my neighborhood.”
She told KATU that next time she’s bringing pepper spray and her dog. Also, she said she’ll never run alone again.
