Woman dead, 10-year-old girl injured in Philomath crash

PHILOMATH, Ore. -- A woman died and a 10-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after a crash in Philomath Friday afternoon.

According to the Benton County Sheriff's Office, Kathryn Weldon, 61, of Philomath, was driving along Bailey Street with a 10-year-old relative from Las Vegas. Weldon turned her Honda Accord east onto West Hills Road and was hit by a westbound Ford Excursion, sheriff's officials said.

Weldon died at the scene. Medics took her 10-year-old passenger to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. The extent of her injuries is unclear.

The driver of the Excursion, 33-year-old Katie Cornell of Philomath, was not hurt in the crash.
