Woman fought off attacker by kicking him in groin

SHERIDAN, Ore. - Sheriff's deputies in Yamhill County say a man broke into an apartment in Sheridan on Thursday night and tried to sexually assault a woman who lived there.

The woman was able to fight off her attacker by kicking him in the groin, according to Sgt. Todd Whitlow with the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office.

Whitlow said the victim, who is 19 years old, did not know her attacker.

The attack happened around 8:15 p.m. when the woman was home alone. The home is an older house divided into two apartments. Nobody else was home in either apartment, Whitlow said.

The victim heard a noise and thought it was somebody in the neighboring apartment before realizing the attacker was in her home. Police said the attacker was never able to get the victim's clothes off before she kicked him.

Whitlow said the victim was able to help deputies put together a composite sketch of her attacker.

He is a white man in his mid-20s, between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs between 175-195 pounds.

Whitlow said he has light hair, blue-green eyes, has freckles and is possibly a smoker.

The man was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with blue jeans.

If you have any information about the attack you should call the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office at (503) 434-7506.
